Is NEET compulsory?

In March 2019, the Medical Council of India (MCI) by its notification has made the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for students who aim to pursue MBBS courses Abroad. So, how many marks are required in the NEET to study MBBS in abroad?

The scores needed for enrolment in foreign universities depend on the percentiles. For admission in the medical college of abroad, qualifying NEET is sufficient but with the required percentile. Students after qualifying NEET are eligible to enroll in abroad medical colleges before three years from the passing date. Refer to the chart given below to identify your eligibility;

  • General – Un Reserve:     50% (percentile of marks, i.e., 110-130 marks)
  • General (UR) PwD:          45 % (percentile of marks, i.e.,115-125 marks)
  • SC/ST/OBC:                    40% (percentile of marks, i.e., 90-100 marks)
  • SC/ST/OBC—PwD:         40% (percentile of marks, i.e., 90-100 marks)

This percentile score to qualify NEET depends on the highest marks obtained in that particular year and based on that the cut-off marks percentile varies every year.
